Southampton are reportedly eyeing a move for Angers SCO sensation Mohamed-Ali Cho in the January window.
According to the Daily Mail, the 17-year-old striker is one of multiple names Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side are keeping tabs of this month, alongside Fleetwood Town talent James Hill and RB Salzburg prospect Chukwubuike Adamu.
Despite being just 17-years-old, Cho has exploded onto the Ligue 1 scene this season with Angers. The forward has bagged two goals in 18 top-flight appearances for the French side, and the youngster has already made history in 2021.
The attacker became the youngest player ever to sign a professional contract in French football. And according to L’Equipe, Angers will only entertain offers of around €40m (£34m) for Cho, with Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea also chasing the teenager.
Compared to Romelu Lukaku as per Scouted Football, Cho is an exciting talent who could become a star one day. The youngster has already played for France’s U-21 side, with the forward also playing for England’s U-16s.
Indeed, Cho is eligible to play for four countries, and with Southampton now on his tail, the Saints could land one of the most highly rated teenagers currently playing in Europe.
Southampton signing Cho could be turning point for club
The Angers youngster has been nothing short of a revelation this season, with Cho winning admirers from all corners of Europe and being touted as one of the next big things in French football, and Southampton simply have to win the race for the attacker.
After all, the 17-year-old is wanted by most of Europe’s biggest sides, and Southampton beating them out for Cho will be a huge statement of intent from the board and Hasenhuttl. Especially given how much Angers want for the teenager.
