Southampton are reportedly keen on Chelsea’s Izzy Brown.

According to The Telegraph, Southampton are interested in snapping up Chelsea youngster Izzy Brown amid confusion over a move to Huddersfield Town.

Brown, 20, joined Chelsea from West Bromwich Albion back in 2013, after making one first-team appearance for the Baggies, where he has risen up through the ranks.

The winger has made just one first-team appearance for Chelsea too, having spent time out on loan with Vitesse Arnhem, Rotherham United and, most recently, Huddersfield Town.

Brown’s starring role in Huddersfield’s promotion to the Premier League, having hit five goals in 21 games, has seen him attract interest, but a return to Huddersfield has been complicated.

As reported by The Telegraph, Huddersfield intend to take Chelsea playmaker Kasey Palmer on loan again this summer, and Premier League rules mean they can’t take another player on loan from the Blues – meaning they would have to pay £8million to land Brown.

Southampton could now swoop in to take advantage of Huddersfield’s complications with Chelsea, as it’s claimed that they are also interested in signing England Under-20 star Brown.

The Saints have just appointment Mauricio Pellegrino as their new manager, and the Argentinian may look to add another attacking option to the likes of Dusan Tadic, Nathan Redmond and Sofiane Boufal.

Signing Brown may not grab the headlines, but he would be a smart purchase for the long-term for Southampton, and they have already shown how they can develop under-used Chelsea talents such as Ryan Bertrand and Oriol Romeu. In recent years, presenting Brown with a snapshot of what he could become if he chooses a move to the South Coast.
