Southampton are considering an approach for Shamrock Rovers full-back Trevor Clarke, according to The Irish Sun.
The Saints, along with Championship new boys Sheffield United, were said to have watched Clarke in action last month.
And it is now being claimed that Ross Wilson, Southampton’s recruitment head, was left impressed by the 19-year-old’s displays.
According to The Irish Sun, a decision on whether to proceed with a ‘low six-figure bid’ is ‘expected soon’ – and Clarke’s expiring contract could force Shamrock into a sale.
Formerly a winger on Middlesbrough’s books, the Ireland Under-19 international has impressed since returning to his homeland last season.

36 games and one positional change later, he is already being backed as a future international by manager Stephen Bradley.
And a move to Southampton would likely appeal, with the Premier League side renowned for their development of young players.
