Bednarek looks set to become the first signing of the Mauricio Pellegrino era at Southampton.
Southampton are confident they have clinched the £7 million signing of Poland Under-21 defender Jan Bednarek, The Mirror reports [28 June, page 50].
And their perseverance looks to have paid off, with the Lech Poznan star set to become Mauricio Pellegrino’s first St Mary’s recruit, according to The Mirror [28 June, page 50].
A new centre-half was always likely to feature highly on the Saints‘ summer shopping list, with Martin Caceres departing on a free transfer and Virgil van Dijk still expected to move on despite Liverpool withdrawing their interest.
And Bednarek, for whom it is claimed Southampton will pay £5.3 million up front, may not be the only new face in his position.
However, they could miss out on reported target Nathan Ake, with The Mirror reporting [28 June, page 50] that the Chelsea player is closing in on a £20 million move to Bournemouth.
