Southampton are reportedly closing in on signing Moussa Djenepo from Standard Liege.
According to a report from TuttoMercatoWeb, Southampton are closing in on their first signing of the summer, with Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men edging towards a deal for Moussa Djenepo.
Hasenhuttl is gearing up for his first pre-season at St Mary’s after leading the side to Premier League safety in late 2018. The Saints may have only finished two places above the bottom three, but there is a sense that the club are back on track after a couple of disappointing managerial appointments.
And it appears that the Austrian is wasting little time getting stuck into the window. TuttoMercatoWeb reports that Djenepo is closing in on sealing a move to the south coast, with Southampton set to pay around £19.4 million for the 20-year-old.
The Mali international scored eight goals in 32 league appearances this past season for Standard Liege. He predominantly featured from the left wing, but can also play on the other flank, up front or behind the striker.
It will please the supporters that the Saints appear to be looking at strengthening their attacking options. Despite their improvement under Hasenhuttl, their top goalscorers finished on seven league goals each.
There is going to be plenty of excitement heading into next season. And Djenepo looks to have the potential to be a name to look out for in the coming months should his move to Southampton go through as reportedly expected.
