According to reports from Sport, Southampton are close to signing Nicolae Stanciu for a fee of around £7 million.

Southampton lost the services of key duo Graziano Pelle and Sadio Mane this summer and on the basis of the first two matches of the Premier League season, the Saints seem to have also lost their cutting edge in front of goal.

With just over a week to go before the end of the transfer window, strengthening the attacking lineup will surely be one of the main priorities for manager Claude Puel and Romanian sensation Nicolae Stanciu has been mentioned as one of the targets for Southampton (Digi Sport).

Stanciu was one of the stars of the Romanian Liga 1 last season, scoring 14 goals as well as providing 11 assists in 38 appearances and his contribution helped Steaua București finish in second place in the table.

As a result, Stanciu had been attracting the interest from a number of top clubs across Europe but Steaua decided not to sell as a result of their participation in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers.

However, Steaua’s chances of reaching the group stages of the Champions League seem to be all but over after they suffered a 5-0 hammering at the hands of Manchester City in the first leg of the play-offs and now Romanian outlet Sport have gone on to provide a key update regarding Stanciu’s future.

The report states that Steaua are finally ready to sell Stanciu following the second leg of the Champions League play-off against City on Wednesday and that the 23-year-old is set to join Southampton after the Saints placed a bid of around £7 million.
