Southampton and Norwich City are reportedly in the race to sign the 17-year-old defender.

According to a report from the Shropshire Star, Southampton, Bournemouth and Norwich City are all eyeing a summer move for Shrewsbury starlet Rhys Davies, with the 17-year-old set to leave the League One side at the end of the season.

The Shropshire Star reports that Davies is in the second year of a scholarship, but has been told by the Shrews that he will not be offered professional terms and will be allowed to move on in the summer.

While most youngsters released by League One clubs would probably be left wondering whether they have a future in the professional game, it appears that Davies is actually heading to the Premier League once he becomes a free agent.

The Shropshire Star reports that the left-back impressed on trial at Southampton, while the Cherries and Canaries are also interested in a potential move for the teenager.

Of course, Norwich are currently in the Championship. But Daniel Farke’s men securing promotion looks to now be a formality despite conceding a stoppage-time equaliser at home to Reading on Wednesday.

The Saints have one of the most highly-rated academies in the game. The Daily Mail recently reported that they had beaten the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United and Wolves to the £1 million signing of Birmingham City starlet Ramello Mitchell, so on paper, it would be no surprise if Davies heading to St Mary’s was the most likely option.
