Hampshire Live claim Southampton are battling Leicester City in the race to sign on-fire Burnley star Josh Brownhill before Thursday’s 11pm deadline – after the Clarets ace took his tally to four goals already for the 22-23 season.
Brownhill, 26, has remained at Burnley under Vincent Kompany this summer. That is despite the likes of Ben Mee, Nick Pope, James Tarkowski, Maxwel Cornet and Dwight McNeil among those to depart the club after suffering relegation.
The ex-Bristol City midfielder has been in stunning form at this early stage of the season. Even captaining Burnley in one of his eight appearances, he has scored four goals and laid on an assist – including a brace at Wigan in a 5-1 win.
Reports earlier this summer suggested that Leeds, Everton and West Ham all wanted to sign the £15million-rated ace. Now, at this late stage in the window, Southampton and Leicester are going head to head for Brownhill’s signature.

Brownhill has shown, during his time at Burnley, that he is more than adept when it comes to Premier League football. Although more reserved in the top tier, he was still a crucial part of Burnley’s side – clocking up 78 appearances.
Now, in the Championship, he has been given more of an attacking role by Kompany. But he is also in the final two years of his deal. Burnley may feel that they have to cash in. That is if Brownhill does not want to sign a new deal.
What Brownhill must weigh up is if he will get as much game time at the likes of Leicester or the Saints. Or would he be better off staying at Turf Moor, helping Burnley go back up. That way, he would get regular Premier League football.
