According to a report from the Sunday Mirror (04/03; page 63), Southampton are among the Premier League sides considering a move for Feyenoord striker Nicolai Jorgensen this summer.

Jorgensen has enjoyed a decent season in the Eredivisie, scoring seven goals in 21 top flight games for the fifth-place side, and the Mirror reports that he is now ready to move to England this summer.

The Sunday Mirror adds (04/03; page 63) that the Saints are amongst the teams to register an interest in Jorgensen, who helped inspire his current side to the league title last season with 21 goals in 32 games and a place in this season’s Champions League.

Good target for Southampton?

Southampton have really struggled to find that prolific goalscorer in the seasons since they sold the likes of Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Sadio Mane and, more recently, Graziano Pelle.

Charlie Austin boasts an impressive strike-rate this season, but has only managed to start five times largely due to concerns about his fitness. But the fact that he remains their top goalscorer with six strikes to his name should tell its own story.

If Jorgensen moved to St Mary’s and found the form that helped land Feyenoord the title last season, he would undoubtedly be a brilliant signing – but he is currently going through a run of form which has seen the Denmark international not find the back of the net since December.

And if the Saints manage to stay up this season, the fans may need some convincing that Jorgensen is good enough if he is going to be their marquee striker target during the summer window.
