According to The Mirror (28/02, p67), Southampton are interested in snapping up Levante winger Jorge de Frutos.
It’s claimed that Southampton have already spoken to his representatives, and are at the front of the queue for a deal.
De Frutos does have a contract with Levante until 2025, meaning he won’t come cheap, but the Saints have hope of a move.
Primarily a right-sided winger, De Frutos can also operate on the left if needed, and he now looks to be fulfilling his potential.
The wide man had a spell in the Real Madrid ranks, but couldn’t break through to their first team as he spent his team in their B team.
A move to Levante materialised last summer, and he has hit three goals and 10 assists in all competitions this season.

Southampton do have plenty of players who can operate as the wide players in Ralph Hasenhuttl’s 4-2-2-2 system, including Nathan Redmond, Moussa Djenepo, Stuart Armstrong and youngster Nathan Tella.
Yet with Theo Walcott and Takumi Minamino only on loan until the summer, De Frutos may be seen as a long term solution for Southampton down the right flank.
