Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama is reportedly pushing for a move to Tottenham.
According to The Mirror, Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama is currently ignoring the offer of a new contract at St. Mary’s Stadium, as he wants to join Tottenham this summer.
Wanyama, 24, joined Southampton from Celtic back in the summer of 2013, and immediately established himself as a key player in Mauricio Pochettino’s side on the South Coast.
The Kenyan international has earned a reputation as one of the Premier League’s most dominant holding midfielders, regularly demonstrating his incredible strength in front of the Southampton back four.
Wanyama has racked up almost 100 appearances for Southampton, but has seen the likes of Calum Chambers, Dejan Lovren, Toby Alderweireld, Luke Shaw, Morgan Schneiderlin, Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert all leave the club for Premier League rivals – and he appears to want the same thing.
The Mirror report that Wanyama has been ignoring the offer of a new five-year contract at Southampton for months now, all because he is pushing for a move to Tottenham this summer.
It’s claimed that Wanyama wants to reunite with his former Southampton boss Pochettino at White Hart Lane, and with Tottenham keen to add depth to their squad ahead of their return to the Champions League, Wanyama could end up in North London ahead of next season.
A free agent in 2017, Wanyama has leverage over Southampton as he can walk away on a free transfer in just over a year, meaning Tottenham could try to land themselves a bargain this summer.
