Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga will not be heading to Arsenal this summer.

That’s according to Football.London, who claim sources close to the player have played down any prospect of a move to North London.

Le10 Sport had reported on Monday morning that The Gunners were ready to do whatever it takes to bring Camavinga to the Emirates.

Fans were understandably excited; Camavinga is one of the top young players in Europe, and seeing him join Thomas Partey in midfield would be hugely exciting.

Sadly though, sources close to Camavinga have described the rumours as ‘absolute rubbish’, completely ruling out joining Arsenal.

The 18-year-old would cost huge money to prise away from Rennes, possibly north of 50million (£43million) and Arsenal don’t have that kind of cash right now, with Brighton’s Yves Bissouma seen as a cheaper alternative.

Camavinga already has three France caps to his name and is on course for stardom, with Arsenal fans no doubt hoping that he joins one day given that he has been compared to Patrick Vieira.

Camavinga appears to like Arsenal given that he has a framed Rennes v Arsenal poster on his wall, but the teenager may feel that he can do better right now.

Arsenal won’t have European football next season, so their pulling power for top talents like Camavinga is diminishing.

A true European super-club may come in and sign Camavinga, and it may be time for Arsenal fans to give up hope of securing the youngster.
