Sources close to Schalke defender Ozan Kabak don’t believe he’ll sign for Liverpool now, the Athletic report.
Liverpool have been strongly linked with Kabak, as Jurgen Klopp’s side are short on central defenders at the moment.
However, the Turkish player’s representatives are now of the belief that he’ll end up signing for another club.
Schalke would be willing to sell Kabak for around £22.5 million, but it seems there is growing belief that Liverpool will not be pursuing a deal in the Turkish international’s camp.
Missing out on Kabak may be a risk, given Liverpool’s current injury situation.
Joel Matip has proven unreliable, and with Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk out injured there are fears among supporters that failing to sign a central defender could prove costly in the title race.
Liverpool’s form has dipped recently, which has seen their lead at the top dramatically trimmed.
Klopp’s side still lead the way, but they now have a clutch of teams breathing down their necks, with their next league game coming against Manchester United in two weekends’ time.
