Jason Denayer is being linked with a move to Newcastle United this summer when his Lyon contract expires in June. Reports from French outlet Jeunes Footeux now claim that Denayer’s wage demands are £80,000 a week.
Denayer, 26, is out of contract in the summer, with the Belgium defender choosing not to renew his current deal. The Lyon ace is reportedly a target for the Toon, with the Chronicle claiming he wants to move to Newcastle.
It is believed that Denayer ‘likes the area’, having lived in the north east during a loan spell at Sunderland – while on the books at Manchester City. That is believed to be tempting Denayer, into joining Newcastle on a free.
Now, Jeunes Footeux state how much Denayer is requesting from any interested parties – a wage of £80,000 a week. Marseille are also being linked, but his wage demands is set to put Jorge Sampaoli’s side off.
Denayer wage demands: A small drop in the ocean for Newcastle
The likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Kieran Trippier and even Chris Wood are said to be on contracts far exceeding £100,000 a week. So, for Denayer to want £80,000, it is a small figure and easily affordable for the Toon.
Is Denayer a player that improves the defence? Well, Financial Fairplay is the only obstacle that will stop Newcastle from going crazy in the market – so the odd signing on a free or for a bargain fee will help them.
Denayer would certainly improve Newcastle’s defence and arguably, would become their best centre-back – or on a par with Dan Burn, should he join.
