According to the Telegraph, some figures inside Tottenham Hotspur have been ‘surprised’ by Antonio Conte’s comments to Sky Italia this week.

Not for the first time this season, a prominent figure at a London club has caused outrage by speaking to the Italian press.

First it was Romelu Lukaku who made it clear just how much he’d rather be playing for Inter Milan rather than Chelsea, and now Conte has gone on the record to seemingly criticise Spurs’ transfer strategy in January, claiming that the club are actually weaker after the window.

From the outside looking in, we can see what Conte means, he lost the likes of Dele Alli, Tanguy Ndombele, and Giovani Lo Celso last month – almost £150m worth of talent, and they were replaced by Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski – two Juventus fringe players.

However, some within Spurs have been caught off guard by Conte’s comments, with the Telegraph describing those within Tottenham as ‘surprised’ by the Italian’s admission.

There’s seemingly been a breakdown in communication here. If Conte felt disappointed with the January business at his own club, then he should be discussing that internally before talking to the Italian press.

Of course, there are two sides to every story, and Conte believes that his interview wasn’t quite translated properly, but regardless of that, it seems as though there are a few problems bubbling beneath the surface at Spurs.
