Report: Some close to Kemar Roofe concerned about Leeds contract talks

Kemar Roofe is reportedly keen to secure a new contract at Leeds United, but some are not expecting talks to run smoothly.

According to a report from the Yorkshire Evening Post, there are some in Kemar Roofe’s camp who have their concerns that Leeds will not offer the kind of terms that the forward is looking for as the two parties prepare for contract talks.

Roofe has enjoyed a sensational start to the campaign, scoring seven goals in 10 appearances, including three in his last three, to help the Whites put themselves at the top of the Championship.

His deal expires at the end of next season, and the Yorkshire Evening Post reports that he is now looking for a wage which takes him much closer to the bracket that summer signing Patrick Bamford finds himself in. He is said to be well adrift of his teammate when it comes to salary.

However, the report adds that some close to Roofe have their doubts that Leeds will be willing to put the contract offer on the table that the 25-year-old is currently looking for.

It must be mentioned that the Whites reportedly remain confident that they will be able to avoid the kind of situation that led to Chris Wood being sold, and will agree an extension.

Roofe certainly has shown the kind of form that suggests that he deserves much improved terms, and it would be a gamble for the Whites to let his deal run down much further.

Tyler Roberts performed well in Roofe’s absence earlier this term, but Leeds appear to have turned things up a gear again since he returned to lead the line.

And given how much it would cost to replace Roofe – when you consider his current goalscoring return – it seems to be a lot more sensible to not take a risk on his future and get an agreement sorted.
