Some at Leeds United reportedly believe that the under-23 boss is the man to step up when Marcelo Bielsa’s tenure ends.

According to a report from the Yorkshire Evening Post, there are some at Leeds who believe that Carlos Corberan could be the man to succeed Marcelo Bielsa when the Argentinian leaves Elland Road.

While Whites fans are almost solely focused on the club’s chances of securing promotion out of the Championship, many would be lying if they suggested that they had not given thought to and were not slightly concerned about the path Leeds will go down once Bielsa’s tenure comes to an end in the future.

Many hope that day never comes. But with Bielsa transforming so much at the club, it looks as though appointing the right man as his successor could have a massive impact on how much of a legacy the current Leeds boss is able to leave.

Corberan’s stock has significantly increased with the work that he has done with the under-23s, who clinched the Professional Development League North title this week and have a quarter-final in the Premier League Cup quickly emerging on the horizon.

Corberan – who was appointed in 2017 – has also regularly been seen in the Elland Road dug-out this term when the first-team are playing, with the Yorkshire Evening Post reporting that he was invited into Bielsa’s circle during pre-season.

Understandably therefore, there are plenty of supporters who hope to see Corberan considered as a contender for the role when Bielsa does leave. And it appears that some at the club have a similar mindset.

The Yorkshire Evening Post adds that some at Leeds believe that Corberan has the potential to succeed Bielsa depending on his development and when the latter decides to step aside.

As mentioned, Bielsa’s departure is not a prospect that any Whites fan wants to consider right now. Regardless of how they finish the campaign, the head coach has helped set up a season that will live long in the memory of supporters.

But looking at Corberan as a potential successor looks to be a very smart move given the work that he has done. Leeds’ next first-team boss may feel under enormous pressure following on from Bielsa. But Corberan is showing that he could have the tools to ensure that Bielsa’s legacy thrives, especially as he continues to learn under the Leeds boss.
