Manchester United are reportedly rivalling Liverpool for Timo Werner.
According to The Express, Manchester United are now hoping to swoop in and land RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner ahead of Liverpool in 2020.
The Red Devils have struggled to score goals of late, and with Marcus Rashford still not seeming like a natural centre forward, a new striker will be a priority for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Mario Mandzukic and Moussa Dembele are two popular names in the mix, but it’s now believed that United’s chase could take them to the Bundesliga.
It’s claimed that Solskjaer wants to land RB Leipzig hitman Werner, and is hoping to nip and beat Liverpool to his signature in 2020.
Liverpool have been tracking Werner for some time now having become a long-term target for Jurgen Klopp, but United are now eyeing up a move of their own.
Werner, 23, has smashed eight goals in 10 games for Leipzig this season, hitting blistering form early into the campaign whilst also impressing for Germany.
Werner would bring great movement and pace to the United attack, whilst beating Liverpool to his signature would be a major coup for Solskjaer and co, even if it seems unlikely.
The striker only signed a four-year extension with Leipzig in August, but Kicker claim that the deal remarkably includes a bargain €30million (£27million) release clause, with big clubs no doubt queueing up if that really is the case.
Sky Germany did report in August that Werner actually already has an agreement in place to join Bayern Munich, meaning both Liverpool and United may yet miss out, but for now, they both appear to be keen on the striker, who is more likely to move next summer than in January.
