Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and members of his Manchester United staff reportedly kept in touch with Diogo Dalot whilst he was on loan with AC Milan.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Solskjaer ensured there was a dialect between himself Dalot during his spell at Milan last campaign.
The 22-year-old left for Serie A last October and made 34 appearances for Stefano Pioli’s side.
Clearly, the young full-back impressed his suitors back at Old Trafford, as MEN state that Solskjaer’s feedback was positive.
So much so, United have asked Dalot to return for pre-season training next month, despite Milan’s apparent interest to re-sign him.
He is currently away with Portugal on European Championship duty, having replaced Joao Cancelo, who tested positive for covid.
After the tournament, he is set to make his way back to Manchester, where his future will need clearing up.
Manchester United’s current options
United already have Aaron Wan-Bissaka as their first-choice right-back, with the pursuit of Kieran Trippier still underway.
However, if they fail to sign Atletico Madrid’s title winning defender, Solskjaer may want added reinforcements in that area of the field.
Dalot can play quite comfortably on either flank, but spent most of his Milan tenure on the right.
Brandon Williams also has this adaptability in his locker. However, he could well be heading out the door this summer.
A report from the Mirror claim Williams will be sent out on loan, after struggling to break into Solskjaer’s team.
This would free up another space for Dalot to potentially fill if United decide to keep him on permanently for another term.
