Aston Villa’s move for Ollie Watkins could have received a boost today, according to Sky Sports.
Villa are keen to tie up a deal for the Brentford striker as quickly as possible, but they have been frustrated in negotiations so far.
Watkins could now be allowed to leave Brentford though, as they have now signed his apparent replacement.
Ivan Toney has joined the Bees from Peterborough United, which could see Villa’s move for Watkins green lighted.
That should delight Dean Smith, as the Villa hierarchy have apparently grown frustrated over the delays in bidding for the powerful forward.
Villa want the Watkins deal all wrapped up and signed as soon as possible, as they feel that he will benefit from working with his teammates before the competitive season starts.

Villa lacked goals last term, and Watkins is likely to immediately come in and take a starting place up-front.
Watkins, who was labelled as ‘top class’ in The Sun by Danny Higginbotham, scored 26 goals for Brentford last season, making him one of the Championship’s most sought after players.
