Newcastle United are looking for a new manager following the departure of Rafael Benitez.
According to a report in the Northern Echo, Slavisa Jokanovic wants the Newcastle United job.
Jokanovic took a new job at Al-Gharafa just 10 days ago, but he is reportedly keen on joining Newcastle, after a vacancy opened up.
Rafael Benitez’s departure has seen a number of managers announce their desire to take over at Newcastle, and it seems that Jokanovic would also be keen.
Whether Jokanovic is on Newcastle’s radar remains to be seen, but his desire to come is very interesting considering he took on a new job so recently.
The 50-year-old last worked in English football with Fulham.
Jokanovic guided Fulham to promotion to the Championship, but was sacked midway through last term with Fulham struggling against the drop.
The Cottagers did not improve without Jokanovic and were eventually relegated, with the Serbian’s failure to sort out his side’s defence proving costly.
If Newcastle were to appoint Jokanovic it would be a risky appointment.
The appeal of Jokanovic is that he arguably plays a more stylish brand of football than Benitez.
However, Newcastle’s foundation in recent seasons has been their defensive strength and there are question marks over whether Jokanovic’s teams are solid enough to cope in the Premier League.
