Arsenal youngster Ainsley Maitland-Niles was in training today, despite being linked with an exit from the Emirates Stadium, Sky Sports report (1:19).
Maitland-Niles has seemingly been on the verge of an Arsenal exit, but the latest update leaves his future in major doubt.
Southampton have apparently pulled out of the deal, with Maitland-Niles training as usual this morning.
That, of course, does not mean that the 23-year-old will definitely stay at Arsenal.
But, with time running out, his wish for more regular first-team football may not come true.
If Maitland-Niles does stick around at Arsenal it is difficult to see how he breaks into Mikel Arteta’s side on a regular basis.
The England international wants to play in midfield, but Arsenal’s options there look strong, and at left-back Kieran Tierney remains the undisputed first-choice.
