Max Allegri’s agent is set to hold talks with Real Madrid in the Spanish capital after the former Juventus manager turned down Tottenham Hotspur, as reported by Calciomercato.

A born winner who values success over style, Allegri was the epitome of the time-honoured Juventus motto: ‘Winning isn’t important, it’s the only thing that matters.’

It’s a statement that wouldn’t look out of place embroidered – most probably in gold – on the back of Real Madrid’s gleaming white shirts either.

That’s why Zinedine Zidane, the playmaker-turned-pragmatist, has been allowed to get away with his distinctly Simeone-ian methods – as long as the silverware keeps rolling in.

So, with Zidane expected to walk away from perhaps the most high-pressure job in sport at the end of this season, Allegri feels like a natural successor to the three-time Champions League-winning Frenchman.

Calciomercato reports Allegri’s agent is travelling to Madrid for talks with Los Blancos.

The 53-year-old, a six-time Serie A champion at Juventus and AC Milan, is also monitoring the situation at both his former clubs amid uncertainty over the futures of Andrea Pirlo and Stefano Pioli.

One club that appears to be out of contention for Allegri’s signature, however, is Tottenham.

AS reported yesterday the Tuscan-born tactician has turned down an approach from Spurs chairman Daniel Levy as he awaits an offer from Madrid.

An offer that may be coming in the next few days…
