Simon Mignolet lost his place in Liverpool’s starting XI to summer signing Alisson Becker last season.

Liverpool believe Simon Mignolet still has an important role to play at the club as they expect him to stay at Anfield this summer, according to a report.
The Times have claimed that manager Jurgen Klopp has been impressed with Mignolet’s attitude and approach during a period where he lost the number one jersey to Alisson Becker.
It is said that Mignloet has played an unselfish role as Alisson’s understudy, with the Brazilian signing for the Merseyside club last summer and nailing his place in the starting XI.
The Reds won the Champions League trophy earlier this month and that was largely down to the strong defence they had, with Alisson proving his worth in between the sticks – that resulted in Mignolet’s game time being reduced.
Nonetheless, in recent seasons Mignolet has been a regular in goal for Liverpool, but the 31-year-old hasn’t been able to really cement his place in the team.

Whether it be Mignolet, or previously Loris Karius, they were unable to eradicate the errors in their game, which forced Klopp to splash big on Alisson, and in the end, it paid off.
If the reports are true then it is some u-turn by Liverpool with Mignolet staying because previously the Evening Standard claimed that Klopp was in the market for a backup keeper because the Belgian was allowed to leave.
Nonetheless, Klopp will now be hoping that Mignolet can continue to play his part in the feel-good factor at the club following their Champions League triumph in Madrid.
