Sunderland are hoping to have Aston Villa forward Ross McCormack in their line-up to face Derby County on Friday.
Sunderland are extremely close to agreeing a loan deal with Aston Villa for the experienced forward.
The Black Cats open their season in just over 48 hours time, and there is a hope that McCormack could be in Sunderland’s squad for the contest.

Simon Grayson is said to be ‘desperate’ to land McCormack, as he feels the striker could lead the line well at the Stadium of Light over the season ahead.
Grayson and McCormack worked together at Leeds United earlier in their respective careers, and the pair have a good relationship.
McCormack has endured a difficult time since signing for Villa, and will be looking to find his goalscoring form again at Sunderland.
If McCormack does move to Grayson’s side, he will be in competition with the likes of James Vaughan and Lewis Grabban for a first-team place.
