Celtic and Rangers are the two biggest clubs in Scottish football by a long way.
A report compiled by data analytics company Sporting Intelligence has released figures showing the expenditure on player wages throughout the teams in the Scottish Premiership.
Celtic, who are by far and away the most dominant side on the football pitch, are equally as powerfully financially in comparison to their competitors.

The report from Sporting Intelligence states that Celtic’s outlay on player salaries is £717,860 per annum – more than double that of their fierce rivals Rangers, whose salary expenditure per year is £316,888.
The gulf between the Glasgow giants and the lesser-known sides of the Scottish Premiership is highlighted by Hamilton Academical’s figures that show just £42,606 spent on wages per year.
Rangers manager Mark Warburton
The report also highlights another astonishing statistic. Every single English Premier League spends more on player wages than the Hoops, with the leading side in England’s top flight Manchester United laying out eight times as much as the Glasgow giants on player salaries annually.
Celtic’s outlay on wages is not enough to get them inside the top five of any of Europe’s major leagues, and further highlights the competition they face to attract the top-class players they require in order to be more competitive on the continent.
That gap will no doubt have to be narrowed if either Celtic or Rangers are to once again be a force in Europe, but the figures released highlight the monumental task faced by both Brendan Rodgers and Mark Warburton if they are to succeed in doing so.
