According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi is most likely to make a move to the Bundesliga in 2021.
It’s claimed that Mustafi is unlikely to be offered a new contract at Arsenal, meaning he looks set to leave the club at the end of the season.
Mustafi is now thought to be a target for teams in the Bundesliga, where he has actually yet to play despite being a German international.
The 28-year-old started out at Hamburg, but left way back in 2009 in order to join Everton before heading to Italy with Sampdoria and Spain with Valencia.
Mustafi has been with Arsenal for the last four years, and whilst he showed some improvement under Mikel Arteta, he looks set to move on for free next summer.
With Gabriel Magalhaes brought in, William Saliba on board and Rob Holding starting regularly under Arteta, there’s surely little way back in for Mustafi.
Corriere Della Sera reported in September that Lazio wanted to sign Mustafi, but they have since landed Wesley Hoedt, meaning a move for Mustafi may not be at the top of their agenda anymore.
Heading to Germany in search of first-team football could make sense, especially having told Bild over the summer that he would be interested in heading to the Bundesliga as Germany is his ‘home’.
Arsenal would get his £90,000-a-week wages off the bill too, though they may now be minded to try and sell in January rather than lose him for nothing.
