Sheffield Wednesday are “well placed” to sign Vitoria Guimaraes midfielder Bongani Zungu, according to A Bola.
The 24-year-old, who operates predominantly in a defensive role, has impressed in his first season in Europe, with Portuguese giants Benfica and Porto among his rumoured admirers.

However, it is claimed that Vitoria will only accept offers of around €3.5 million [£3.06 million].
Wednesday, whose head coach Carlos Carvalhal is Portuguese, are known to be looking to strengthen in Zungu’s position – although, as Soccer Laduma points out, a move to England could be difficult for the South Africa international.
The website states: “Given South Africa’s placing outside of FIFA’s top 50, Zungu is unlikely to receive a work permit for the UK and therefore, a move to England would be extremely difficult – although not impossible – at this stage in his career.”
Wednesday have signed a number of players from Portugal’s top flight in recent years, with Lucas Joao, Marco Matias and Vincent Sasso among the most notable imports.

However, the Owls’ assistant coach Lee Bullen has hinted to the Star that this summer’s recruits will be predominantly British based.
“I believe [transfer targets] will be players who know what needs to be done in this league and know it inside out,” the Scot said.

“I think we will have identified traits in players that might enhance the squad and if we can find these in England with Championship experience then even better.”
Would Zungu be a good acquisition for Sheffield Wednesday?
