Sheffield Wednesday are hoping to land Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton on a free transfer, but their Championship rivals want a seven-figure sum for the defender.
According to a report from The Sun, Sheffield Wednesday are hoping that they will be able to sign Alan Hutton on a free transfer this summer, but Aston Villa want to receive a small fee for the full-back.
Hutton has endured a turbulent time with the Villans, but arguably enjoyed a much better season last time out, hinting that he could be an important player for Steve Bruce’s squad during the coming Championship season.

The Sun suggests however, that Wednesday want to offer him a new challenge, and actually hope to land the Scotland international on a free transfer – though they will have to do some persuading if they hope to tempt Villa into a deal.
The Sun adds that Villa would be looking for a fee of £1 million before they give a deal for the 32-year-old – who, the Express and Star reported back in March, is set to be under contract with the Villans until 2018 – the green light.
Given that the two clubs do not appear to be too far from each other when it comes to their valuations of Hutton, it may not be a surprise if a move does go through during this window.
The Sun reports that Villa need to raise funds from player sales to help them land their summer targets, and if Bruce deems that letting Hutton move on will benefit them during this window, then perhaps he will be willing to reach a compromise over the defender.
