Sheffield Wednesday’s Callum McManaman is scheduled to return to West Bromwich Albion this summer.

According to the Birmingham Mail, Sheffield Wednesday are unlikely to bid for Callum McManaman if they win promotion to the Premier League – and seemingly won’t bid more than £2m if they miss out on promotion.

The Owls were looking for reinforcements ahead of the January transfer window to aid their play-off hopes, and swooped to land McManaman on loan from West Bromwich Albion until the end of the season.

Having been completely frozen out at West Brom, with no Premier League appearances to his name, McManaman desperately needed first-team football – but his move to Hillsborough hasn’t really panned out.

McManaman, 26, has started just twice for Wednesday, making a total of 12 appearances in all competitions having failed to break into Carlos Carvalhal’s side on a regular basis.

The former Wigan Athletic ace will be hoping to play a major part in Wednesday’s play-off campaign, in a bid to earn a permanent move – but that doesn’t seem likely right now.

The Birmingham Mail report that Wednesday are unlikely to make an attempt to sign McManaman permanently if they win promotion, believing that they can sign a better player – and if they stay down, they wouldn’t be willing to offer more than £2million for him.

West Brom are believed to be desperate to get McManaman off their books, but it seems hard to believe that Wednesday would even consider a permanent move for the winger given his lack of impact so far.

Whether it’s Wednesday or another club, McManaman looks set to be on the move this summer, with the Baggies seemingly bracing themselves for low bids for the winger.
