According to a report from The Sun on Sunday (print edition; June 11th 2017; pg. 59), Sheffield Wednesday want to sign Derby County defender Richard Keogh this summer.

The Sun on Sunday (print edition; June 11th 2017; pg. 59) reports that Carlos Carvalhal has earmarked the 30-year-old as a potential target for this window as he wants to add some more experience to his defence following another bright season that ultimately had an agonising conclusion.

The Owls finished in the play-off places for a second year in a row. However, Wednesday were unable to surpass or even match how far they went last season when they were denied a place in the Premier League in the final by Hull City, as they fell at the semi-final stage to Huddersfield Town – who, like Hull the previous year – went on to get promoted.

Interestingly, Carvalhal’s side boasted the third best defence in the division during the previous campaign, with only the two automatic-promotion winners doing better at keeping the goals out.

Nevertheless, Wednesday are weighing up whether to make a move for Derby captain Keogh. The 30-year-old played in 42 of the Rams’ 46 league games, helping them keep one of the better defensive records of those sides who missed out on the top six.

Although his form has not always been good enough for some of his critics, he would perhaps be an astute addition given that he has generally been a reliable player for Derby and that Wednesday appear to be in need of further options at the heart of their defence this summer.
