Sheffield Wednesday have reportedly made a bid for Barnsley striker Sam Winnall.
According to the Daily Mail, Sheffield Wednesday have offered a deal worth £450,000 for Barnsley striker Sam Winnall – but Championship rivals Brentford, Huddersfield Town and Leeds United are also keen.
Winnall, 25, came up through the ranks with hometown club Wolverhampton Wanderers, but made his name with Scunthorpe United having hit 23 goals in 45 games during the 2013-14 season.

That goal return was enough to tempt Barnsley into signing him, and he hit 13 goals in his first season with the Tykes, before notching 24 goals in all competitions last season to help Barnsley win promotion from League One.
Winnall has now set about proving himself in the Championship scoring 11 goals in 22 games for Paul Heckingbottom’s side to attract plenty of interest – especially with his contract expiring at the end of the season.
Barnsley’s Sam Winnall
Now, the Daily Mail report that Sheffield Wednesday have now submitted a £450,000 bid to sign Winnall, with manager Carlos Carvalhal keen to boost his attacking options during this month’s transfer window.
Barnsley may be forced into selling Winnall given that he can walk away for nothing at the end of the season, and a move to Yorkshire rivals Wednesday could be appealing given that they’re aiming for a play-off spot.
However, it’s added that Brentford have eyed up a move for Winnall if star striker Scott Hogan if he leaves for West Ham United this month, whilst Leeds United are believed to be tracking him as well.
Garry Monk’s side are keen to land a new striker to support Chris Wood and Marcus Antonsson, and Winnall – a proven striker in the Football League – could be a viable option for the Whites, especially if he’s sold for anything near the £450,000 mentioned.
Huddersfield Town are also credited with an interest, as Yorkshire clubs are seemingly lining up to try and prise Winnall away from Oakwell after such an impressive first half of the season.
