Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly rivalling Aston Villa and eyeing an ambitious move for Chelsea defender Gary Cahill.

Cahill has made just one appearance for the Blues this term and recently suggested that he could consider a move away from the club during the next window in the hope of securing more game-time.
And it appears that he could have plenty of options to pick from. The Sun reports that Wednesday have joined Aston Villa in the battle for the 32-year-old’s signature, while Manchester United are also eyeing a potential bid.

Although Cahill – who earns £130,000-a-week, according to Spotrac – is struggling for game-time at Chelsea and is edging towards the twilight of his career, he clearly has a lot still to give before calling it a day on his career.
The England international has made over 280 appearances for Chelsea and has two Premier League titles and a Champions League medal to his name. He has won every honour available with the Blues.

Wednesday go into Friday’s clash with Leeds 10th in the Championship, and you would imagine that if they are to stand any chance of getting a deal across the line next year, they will have to find themselves boasting at least a decent chance of getting promoted this season. And the finances of a potential move are surely likely to prove a stumbling block.
But with the emotional connection Cahill has with the Owls, it would undoubtedly be foolish to write off Jos Luhukay’s side’s chances of signing the centre-back entirely.
