Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly pursuing a new defender.
According to the Sheffield Star, Sheffield Wednesday are looking to bring in a new central defender before the of the loan window later this month.
The Owls were the only Championship club who failed to bring in any new signings this summer, as Financial Fair Play regulations prevented Wednesday from dipping into the market.
So far, Jos Luhukay’s side have lost two away games and drawn their only home clash, and six goals conceded in three games means Wednesday are looking for arrivals.
The Sheffield Star report that Wednesday have made signing a new centre back their top priority before the end of the month, when the loan window ends.
It’s noted that Luhukay wanted to bring loanee Frederico Venancio back to Hillsborough over the summer, but wasn’t able to before he signed for Vitoria de Guimaraes as financial restraints prevented a permanent move.
Luhukay does have Joost van Aken and Tom Lees at his disposal, whilst Sam Hutchinson can also play at centre back if needed, though he was substituted at half time against Brentford on Sunday.
Having released Glenn Loovens and lost Venancio, Wednesday are clearly short at the back – and are seemingly hoping to snap up a defender on loan, potentially a Premier League talent on loan.
