Keiren Westwood is reportedly set to be unsatisfied with Sheffield Wednesday’s offer of a new contract.

Sheffield Wednesday have offered Keiren Westwood a new one-year deal, according to a report from The Sun on Sunday (12/5; page 59), but the goalkeeper may not be best pleased with the offer.

Westwood has been outstanding for the Owls since being brought back into the fold by Steve Bruce. The 34-year-old made 20 Championship appearances, having been out of the picture during Jos Luhukay’s disappointing tenure at Hillsborough.

Given his recent form, it appeared that it would be a formality for Wednesday to get his future sorted with his contract expiring at the end of the season. However, it appears that there is plenty of work to do.

The Sun on Sunday (12/5; page 59) reports that Westwood wants a deal that will run for at least two years, but Wednesday have so far only offered the Republic of Ireland international a contract that will run until 2020.

With goalkeepers capable of playing into their 40s and Westwood showing few signs of being anywhere near the twilight of his career, it does not appear to be a huge risk to hand the stopper a two-year deal that both parties would be happy with.

He would be incredibly difficult to replace if he did leave in the summer – particularly as the report notes that Dejphon Chansiri is looking to balance the books during the upcoming window – so it is surely in the Owls’ best interests to reach a compromise with the goalkeeper.
