Report: Sheffield Wednesday not currently considering Steve McClaren

Sheffield Wednesday are still looking for their new manager, having recently parted company with Carlos Carvalhal.

According to a report from The Sheffield Star, Sheffield Wednesday are not considering making an approach for Steve McClaren, despite holding talks with the former Newcastle United boss.

The Owls are still on the lookout for their new manager after parting company with Carlos Carvalhal in the wake of the 2-1 home defeat to Middlesbrough just before Christmas.

It had appeared that McClaren may be in the running to succeed the Portuguese – who took little time to find his next job, having been appointed at Premier League strugglers Swansea City – with The Sheffield Star reporting that the Englishman had held discussions with Wednesday about the post.

And speculation that the former Derby head coach may be about to come in at Hillsborough seemingly reached another level when he left his post with Israeli side Maccabi Tel-Aviv – but it seems that those who may have wanted McClaren to arrive may be about to be disappointed.

The Sheffield Star reports that McClaren is not currently being considered for the job with Sheffield Wednesday, and Lee Bullen is set to remain in charge for the game against Brentford this weekend.

If Bullen is able to oversee a performance like the one that Wednesday put in during his first game in interim charge, it will certainly not disappoint many Owls fans if he remains in charge for longer, as they go into their clash with the Bees having secured a 3-0 win away at Nottingham Forest on Boxing Day.
