Sheffield Wednesday are hoping to win the race to sign Middlesbrough striker Jordan Rhodes.

According to Sky Sports’ live transfer feed (January 22nd 2017; 20:08), Middlesbrough have received two bids for striker Jordan Rhodes, with Sheffield Wednesday being one of the clubs to make an offer for the 26-year-old.

The former Blackburn Rovers man has struggled to adapt to life at the Riverside Stadium, and it appears that he could well be on his way out of the Premier League club less than a year after arriving.

Aitor Karanka has previously suggested that Rhodes – who is yet to score in the top flight for Boro having made six appearances this term – would be able to move on provided that the right offer came in following the side’s acquisition of Rudy Gestede earlier in the month (via Sky Sports).

And it appears that the Owls may be stepping up their pursuit of the Scotland international as Sky Sports’ live transfer feed suggests that they have now made a bid for Rhodes.

However, they may have some competition for his signature as Sky Sports adds that another team – not thought to be Aston Villa, whose interest has cooled recently – have another put in an offer.

While it is difficult to know whether Wednesday are winning the battle to land the forward, it must be mentioned that the Owls perhaps have an advantage with his father working at the club.

Though Wednesday have several strikers in their squad, Carlos Carvalhal would be forgiven for looking to bolster their options further, even after the purchase of Sam Winnall earlier in the window.

No team in the top six has scored fewer goals than the Owls, so adding more fire power could go a long way to boosting their chances of remaining in the play-off places until the end of the campaign.
