Sheffield Wednesday boss Steve Bruce is keen to add another centre-back this month.

According to a report on TeamTalk, Sheffield Wednesday are confident of signing Efe Ambrose.

Ambrose is currently a free agent, and he could become Steve Bruce’s first signing at Wednesday.

The centre-back has interest from Cardiff City, but it is the Owls who are said to be leading the way to sign him.

And Wednesday are now confident of getting a deal done for the Nigerian, who has previously represented both Celtic and Hibernian.

Bruce has made strengthening Wednesday’s defence one of his top priorities, but his budget at Hillsborough doesn’t appear to be particularly vast.

Wednesday are battling against Financial Fair Play, and Ambrose represents a potential bargain on a free transfer.

Although Ambrose is not the most technically gifted defender, he does have some qualities which could make him an appealing addition for the Owls.
