Sheffield Wednesday will reportedly look to back Steve Bruce with three signings during the January transfer window.

Sheffield Wednesday plan to back incoming boss Steve Bruce with the money to make three signings during the January transfer window, according to a report from The Sun on Sunday (30/12; page 56).

The report suggests that the Owls will confirm Bruce as their new manager this week, and they managed to get an agreement across the line by insisting that the former Aston Villa boss will be given money to spend.

Dejphon Chansiri is apparently eyeing a promotion push during the second-half of the season, and The Sun on Sunday (30/12; page 56) reports that he is planning to hand Bruce the funds to make three additions to the squad.

The report adds that a centre-back, full-back and striker are on Wednesday’s wishlist heading into the window.

The Owls may be languishing in the bottom-half of the table, but their recent results suggest that Bruce turning the club into play-off contenders is certainly not out of the question.

After beating Preston North End, Wednesday have taken four points from games against Middlesbrough and West Brom, both of whom find themselves in the top five in the Championship.

They are currently 11 points back of the top six, but there always appears to be one team who makes an amazing surge from nowhere to make the play-offs. And they are normally the side that take all of the momentum into the additional games.
