According to the Chronicle, Sheffield Wednesday are at the head of the queue for Sunderland talent George Honeyman.

Wednesday are said to be interested in the youngster, who has played regularly at the Stadium of Light this season.

Sunderland are expected to lose a number of their players in the summer, following their relegation to League One.

And Wednesday are believed to be leading the race for his signature.

Honeyman has scored seven goals in 44 appearances for Sunderland this term, and has been one of their better performers.

However, the attacking midfielder has been unable to save the Black Cats from the drop, and Wednesday are looking to take advantage of the expected fire-sale at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland are set to have new owners next season, but there may have to be a clear-out, before they can get to work at the Stadium of Light.

If Honeyman was to move to Wednesday, he would increase Jos Luhukay’s creative options for next campaign.
