Sheffield United are now interested in a stunning swoop to re-sign their former defender Kyle Walker from Manchester City.

That is according to 90Min, who claim that the Blades ‘would love’ to sign Walker upon promotion to the Premier League.

It seems that Sheffield United are eyeing up an ambitious move and are showing the most interest should Walker want to leave City.

Sheffield United are on the verge of winning automatic promotion to the top flight after just a couple of years away.

Paul Heckingbottom will of course want some big signings to make sure Sheffield United stay in the Premier League.

Walker would certainly fit the bill for Sheffield United and a City exit doesn’t seem completely unimaginable.

Walker is out of contract in 2024 and it doesn’t look like a new deal is on the horizon for the £50m defender.

A return to his hometown club could appeal to Walker, whose time at City may be drawing to an end as he approaches 33.

Kyle Walker was asked about Sheffield United return last month

Walker was born in Sheffield and joined the Blades ranks at the age of just seven

The right back made just two league appearances before Tottenham Hotspur spotted his potential and struck a 2009 deal.

Walker did head back to Sheffield United on loan before spells at Queens Park Rangers and Aston Villa.

We have since seen Walker become a star for Tottenham, City and England as he enjoyed a long career at the top.

With a reduced role at City this season, Walker could be tempted back to where it all started – and he commented on the possibility last month.

Walker did punditry work for BBC Sport as Sheffield United faced Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup.

Asked whether he would like to finish his career at Bramall Lane, Walker simply stated ‘I wouldn’t mind’.

Walker may have been thinking about that move for a little further down the line, but he could be offered the chance this summer.
