Sheffield United could offer Kyriakos Papadopoulos a fresh start in the Premier League after his contract with Hamburg expired, according to Sport24.
Not so long ago, this rock-solid powerhouse of a centre-half was one of the most highly-rated young defenders in the whole of Europe.
Back in the days when Papadopoulos was storming through the ranks at Olympiakos, the 18-year-old was courting interest from some of the Premier League’s biggest and best with Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool going head-to-head for his signature.
Flash forward to the summer of 2020, however, and you would be right in suggesting that the now 28-year-old has not quite lived up to such lofty expectations.
A relentless series of injuries have taken their toll.
Papadopoulos made just four appearances in 2019/20 for a Hamburg side who missed out on promotion to the Bundesliga in the most Hamburg way imaginable, collapsing during a 5-1 final day defeat at home to Saundhausen.

Papadopoulos’s contract has now expired.
And, according to reports in Greece, Sheffield United are willing to overlook that myriad of fitness issues to offer the 29-time international a new beginning at Bramall Lane – if he can pass his medical that is.
