Sheffield United want to push through a move for Blackburn’s Darragh Lenihan before the transfer window closes.
The Blades first made their approach for Lenihan in early July, seeing two offers either side of £500,000 rejected, according to Sky Sports, before a third offer of £1.25m was turned down on Tuesday (August 1).
Darragh Lenihan of Blackburn Rovers and Jesse Lingard of Manchester United battle for the ball.
Yet United manager Chris Wilder is keen to bolster his options in defence despite the signing of Richard Stearman and Enda Stevens this summer and has not given up hope of landing the 23-year-old.
Blackburn do not want to sell Lenihan, but accept that since their relegation to League One there is every chance the Republic of Ireland Under-21 international could be tempted to continue playing in the Championship at Bramall Lane.
Rovers are also having to make cutbacks following their demotion into the third tier of English football and with redundancies happening at Ewood Park, there is every chance they will have to accept an offer for the centre-back before the transfer window closes.
Lenihan is a product of the youth system at the Lancashire club and broke into the first team in 2014, playing 74 times in all competitions since and particularly impressing with his performances last season despite the team’s struggles as a whole.
Stuart Dallas of Leeds United is tackled by Darragh Lenihan of Blackburn Rovers.
