According to a report from the Sheffield Star, West Ham have seen a £4 million bid for John Fleck rejected by Sheffield United as the Championship promotion-chasers look to keep one of their key men.

Fleck has played all but one of the Blades’ 29 Championship fixtures this term, scoring once and providing three assists to help leave Chris Wilder’s men third in the table.

However, some of the Bramall Lane faithful may have feared how much more Fleck would contribute to their promotion push, with the Sheffield Star reporting that West Ham made a seven-figure offer for the 27-year-old.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side have benefited from the superb partnership between Mark Noble and Declan Rice in the middle of the park so far this term, but with the likes of Carlos Sanchez and Jack Wilshere struggling with injury, it appears that he has his eye on adding further depth before Thursday’s deadline.

However, the Sheffield Star reports that Sheffield United have rejected the Premier League side’s offer. It is not clear whether the Hammers will return with another bid, or whether Wilder’s men could be tempted into selling Fleck at any price.

But with the clock ticking down, it appears that it is only going to get more and more difficult for the Irons to get Fleck in at the London Stadium as the Blades will probably not fancy their chances of finding a replacement capable of filling the void that he would leave.
