Sheffield United are reportedly keen on signing the Middlesbrough hitman.

Ashley Fletcher of Sunderland (C) has a shot during the Sky Bet Championship match between Bolton Wanderers and Sunderland at Macron Stadium on February 20, 2018 in Bolton, England.

According to a report from the Sun (print edition August 26th, page 61), Sheffield United are lining up a loan swoop for Middlesbrough striker Ashley Fletcher, as Chris Wilder looks to bolster his attacking ranks at Bramall Lane.

The 22-year-old joined Boro from West Ham in the summer of 2017, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £6.5 million, but he has struggled to establish himself at the Riverside, scoring just four goals in all competitions.

He spent the second half of last season loan at Sunderland where he found it equally hard to make an impact, scoring just twice for the Black Cats.

Fletcher is still young of course, and if given the chance to play regularly, he might just prove to be an asset for the Blades.

According to a report from the Sun (print edition August 26th, page 61), Sheffield United want to sign the 6ft 2in forward, and Tony Pulis could be willing to sanction his exit.

A loan move to the Blades would be beneficial to Fletcher too, as he looks to reinvigorate his flagging career.
