It is claimed that Rodon could cost a similar amount to his former Swansea City teammate Oli McBurnie, now of Sheffield United.

Sheffield United are leading the race to sign the Swansea City centre-back Joe Rodon, according to The Sun on Sunday (October 27, page 61).

The newspaper claims the Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder wants to strengthen his back-line in January – despite his side boasting the Premier League’s joint-second-best defensive record this season.

Swansea, meanwhile, are sliding down the Championship table after a positive start and are said to be vulnerable to big bids for their starlets – having already sold Oli McBurnie to the Blades for around £20 million in the summer transfer window.

And Rodon would not cost much less, according to The Sun on Sunday – although it adds that Sheffield United are ready to spend big.

Rodon, who turned 22 earlier this month, has four caps for Wales and was previously linked with moves to Manchester City, Aston Villa and Celtic.

The Swansea-born player recently signed up until 2022 at the Liberty Stadium.
