The Burnley striker is the latest to be linked with a move to Sheffield United.

Sheffield United are interested in Burnley’s Jonathan Walters, according to the Daily Mail (liveblog entry 11:21).

Striker Walters only moved to Burnley a year ago from Stoke, but only played 37 minutes of Premier League football owing to a knee injury.

And according to the Daily Mail, the Republic of Ireland international is ‘expected’ to leave Turf Moor this summer.

Walters, who turns 35 in September, has scored or assisted 64 goals in 233 top-flight games and is the latest striker to be linked with a move to Sheffield United this week, after Scott Hogan and Sam Gallagher.

The Blades’ first choice partnership of Leon Clarke and Billy Sharp scored more than 30 goals between them last season, although reinforcements are required after the departures of James Wilson and Clayton Donaldson since the end of the campaign.

Born and raised on the Wirral, Walters could become the fourth Merseyside native in United’s senior ranks, after Jack O’Connell, John Lundstram and Mark Duffy.
