Rangers are reportedly pursuing the signature of Sheffield United’s John Lundstram – and they may have been given a slight boost.
According to The Athletic, Rangers admire Lundstram and are waiting in the wings to make a move for him this month.
Lundstram’s contract expires at the end of the season, meaning Rangers could land him on a pre-contract agreement to sign him for nothing.
The Blades would allegedly want £4million to sell Lundstram this month, and new reports suggest that they have already picked out an ideal replacement.
The Sunday Mirror (03/01, p72) report that Sheffield United are pushing for the signing of Reading’s John Swift during this month’s transfer window.
It’s claimed that Chris Wilder views Swift as the ideal replacement for Lundstram, with Rangers’ interest once again noted.

If United push to bring in Swift, they would surely be even more open to letting Lundstram leave this month, giving Rangers hope of a deal.
Lundstram grew up supporting Liverpool, so playing for Steven Gerrard has to be appealing to the 27-year-old, even if it means swapping the Premier League for the Scottish Premiership.
The situation with Swift is now one for Rangers to keep an eye on, with Lundstram potentially inching ever closer to the Bramall Lane exit door.
