The battle to sign Club Brugge forward Emmanuel Dennis is now a straight fight between Sheffield United and Champions League quarter-finalists Atalanta, according to Belgian publication Walfoot.
Considering that Atalanta are perhaps the most exciting side in Europe, scoring the most goals in a single Serie A season for over 60 years, there are certainly worse places for the Nigerian speed-machine to hone his trade.
Gian Piero Gasperini’s free-wheeling side are set to make an official bid for the £18 million-rated Dennis in the coming days as they look to enhance an already relentless front line.
One of the fastest forwards in the game today, Dennis shot to fame with goals against Manchester United and Real Madrid this season.
And if he can add some consistency to that explosive pace, an Atalanta side who scored 98 league goals in 2019/20 (22 more than champions Juventus) will be scarier than ever.
The Beasts of Bergamo cannot celebrate a done deal just yet, however.

As reported by Walfoot, talks have slowed in recent days and Atalanta have Sheffield United to blame for that.
The Blades have been linked on and off with Dennis in the last few months but appear to have stepped up their interest just as the tip of Gasperini’s pen was hovering over the dotted line.
Then again, with the Jupiler League winner making it clear that he wants to play at the very top of the European game next season, Sheffield United’s last-gasp raid is unlikely to end with Dennis posing for photos in front of Bramall Lane.
