According to the Sheffield Star, Sheffield United are set for fresh talks with Celtic over a deal to sign winger Gary Mackay-Steven.

The Blades won promotion to the Championship having won the League One title in May, and manager Chris Wilder has set about improving his squad.

Left back Enda, Stevens, winger Nathan Thomas and striker Ched Evans have all arrived at Bramall Lane, but Wilder is still looking for more new additions ahead of the club’s Championship return.

Now, the Sheffield Star report that Sheffield United are opening fresh talks with Celtic as they attempt to get a deal for winger Gary Mackay-Steven over the line this summer.

Former Liverpool youngster Mackay-Steven joined Celtic from Dundee United in February 2015 having hit 27 goals in 131 games for the Tannadice club, but his fortunes at Celtic haven’t gone in the same direction.

The winger may have ten goals in 52 games under Ronny Deila – a solid if unspectacular return – but he was given just four appearances under Brendan Rodgers this past season, becoming a misfit with the Bhoys.

It now seems that Mackay-Steven is on his way out of Celtic Park in search of first-team football elsewhere, and Sheffield United are hoping that fresh talks can help them beat Blackburn Rovers to his signature.

The report does though claim that Celtic want a fee of around £500,000 to £750,000 for Mackay-Steven, despite his limited role under Rodgers – and the Blades will be hoping it’s closer to £500,000 than £750,000.
